Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics featuring the character Doctor Strange. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. In the film, Strange travels into the multiverse to protect America Chavez (Gomez), a teenager capable of travelling between universes, from Wanda Maximoff (Olsen).
There have also been rumors and hopes that more tinkering with the multiverse could eventually fold the X-Men and possibly The Fantastic Four into the MCU. The X-Men have been teased, especially, and a light SPOILER warning here, with Evan Peters appearing on WandaVision.
Patrick Stewart has also effectively confirmed that he will reprise his role as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so the door is open for other cameos. Marvel has also confirmed that a Fantastic Four project is in the works in 2019, with no further details announced as this is prime time for fans to get more news about it.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is sure to provide some surprises, so it’s understandable that Marvel would want to keep it a secret in order to provide the best possible experience for fans. Cumberbatch proved his comedic talent during an interview with Fallon when he said in his own words, “Basically I’m here, to talk about movies I can’t talk about.”
Riff couples for a few minutes on a non-specific topic like a movie coming out, and it will be available in IMAX. Cumberbatch also joked about Tom Cruise’s surprise cameo, before pretending to play the role of Fallon’s arm in the chat show’s usual fare.
They did at least a preface to the conversation by discussing Cumberbatch’s recent Academy Award nomination for best actor for his role in The Power of the Dog.
Fans won’t have to wait long to find out what the latest MCU has to offer. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will premiere worldwide on May 6.
Benedict Cumberbatch Trying To Talk About Dr. Strange without revealing plot details.
Keeping plot secrets under wraps has become a staple of subsequent Marvel films as their ever-expanding universes begin to attract Sony and Twentieth Century Fox properties. And it’s one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s co-stars in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland, who has become synonymous with dropping spoilers for Marvel projects.
However, the pair managed to keep one of the worst secrets of modern cinema that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would appear in the film. Now, the lens is firmly aimed at Cumberbatch alone as his character prepares for his second eponymous outing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
With the film’s premiere just around the corner, Cumberbatch is out doing the rounds to drum up publicity. He’s having a hard time, though without being allowed to talk about the actual film, characters, or plot details, as was played out so gleefully when he recently appeared in Jimmy Fallon.
The sequel will continue the recent trend of MCU films going against the series’ traditional tone and format, allowing directors to apply their signature. The result is a series that may lack cohesion when viewed as a whole but produce a stronger standalone film.
