Solo: A Star Wars Story actor Alden Ehrenreich reveals the perfect prop he kept from the 2018 Star Wars prequel movie, which is a blaster.
Solo: A Star Wars Story lead actor Alden Ehrenreich shares a photo of the DL-44 blaster he wielded, portraying the character of Han Solo in the film. Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second and most recent Star Wars spinoff film after 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, was released in May 2018 after undergoing a good deal of behind-the-scenes turmoil. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller originally directed the film, but the two directors left the project relatively late in the film’s production and were replaced by Ron Howard, who brought the film across the finish line. The film also starred Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Joonas Suotama.
In an Instagram post, Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich revealed a prop of his character’s iconic blaster pistol in a display case that he kept from the Star Wars prequel movie. Ehrenreich included the caption, “Past Job Experience,” jokingly referring to his time in the Star Wars universe.
The DL-44 heavy blaster pistol was first introduced in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and was used by Harrison Ford in his original Han Solo role. In Solo: A Star Wars Story, it was revealed that Han originally acquired the weapon from Tobias Beckett (Harrelson) after he used it as a soldier for the Empire in the Battle of Mimban. Variations of the blaster have also appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Andor.
Will Alden Ehrenreich Return To Star Wars?
Alden Ehrenreich’s potential return to Star Wars appears unlikely, at least for the near future. Solo: A Star Wars Story’s disappointing box office doesn’t help the actor’s chances. The film was the first serious misfire on a Star Wars project post-Disney acquisition, and the company shifted its spinoff movies to Disney+ streaming shows in the aftermath of the film’s rough box-office showing. The director issues surrounding the Star Wars project and a lack of vision for the film are often cited as more relevant reasons for the film’s lack of success, though the public opinion surrounding Ehrenreich and the entire cast is generally positive.
Even if it isn’t in a film centered around his character, it could make sense for Star Wars to let Ehrenreich reprise the role for minor appearances in films or series on Disney+ during the period between the original and sequel trilogies. However, previous comments from Kathleen Kennedy suggest that LucasFilm views their re-casting of an iconic character as a reason for its box-office letdown, even though it’s clear that Alden Ehrenreich wasn’t the reason why the film flopped. With that in mind, it’s difficult to imagine that Ehrenreich will return anytime soon.
Could Solo Get A Sequel?
Solo: A Star Wars Story didn’t experience the box office success that Disney and LucasFilm hoped for, but the reaction surrounding the project has improved over time. Unfortunately, any hopes of a sequel seem entirely off the table at the moment. Though many actors from Solo want to return, John Kasdan, one of the film’s writers, has said that there currently isn’t any movement on a follow-up. Rumors on the Star Wars movie front also suggest that the franchise is looking to go into the future of the Star Wars timeline for upcoming entries and not the past. Solo: A Star Wars Story may one day get a sequel, but that day likely won’t arrive soon.
