America Latina film streaming is a 2021 Italian drama film directed by Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo. It was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

The film, in competition at the 77th Venice Film Festival, closes a trilogy that began with La terra dell’abbante, continued with Favolacce. And if the latter had been a punch in the stomach, Latin America stuns even more. A simple, linear and at the same time a terrifying story, perhaps one of the most horror films seen in the cinema in recent years. A film that confirms an undeniable talent that starts from writing, texts and images.
“AMERICA LATINA” OF THE D’INNOCENZO. THE PLOT
These are the words of the official plot of Latin America: “Latin: swamps, reclamation, disused nuclear power plants, humidity. Massimo Sisti is the owner of a dental practice that bears his name. Professional, kind, calm, he has conquered everything he could wish for: a villa immersed in peace and a family that he loves and that accompanies him in the passing of days, months, years. His wife Alessandra and daughters Laura and Ilenia (the first teenager, the second not yet) are his reason for living, his happiness, the reward for an existence marked by self-denial and fairness. It is in this imperturbable and calm spring that the unpredictable bursts: one day like any other Massimo goes down to the cellar and the absurd takes over his life “.
“ AMERICA LATINA ”: THE WOMEN AND THE PROTAGONIST’S VILLA
Massimo Sisti, played by Elio Germano, is the protagonist of the film. Around him are three women who, particularly in their costumes, recall Sofia Coppola’s The Garden of the Virgins Suicides. Massimo Sisti lives with his family in a huge villa, the result of his work sacrifices. A villa that we always see shrouded in fog, with a damned and disturbing external appearance, almost like an image of a psychiatric center of other times. It is a villa that reflects his broken, ambiguous soul. Massimo Sisti is a simple man. Inside the house he is one way and outside he is another person who looks at himself, who tries not to get out of control. The villa is his free zone which at a certain point “collapses”, fails. And what happens when not the external “I” but the internal one fails?

“We chose to tell this story because, quite simply, it was the one that put us in the most crisis”, say the directors. “In crisis as human beings, as narrators, as spectators. A story that raised questions in us to which we did not have (and have not even finished the film) answers that did not contradict each other. Questioning ourselves about ourselves is the most precious mission that cinema allows us and Latin America takes this possibility literally, telling a man forced to question his own identity. Being twins, our two previous films also tell stories of families, of a sense of belonging, of blood, but we had never gone so far into the theme and we have chosen the riskiest path for us: sweetness. Sweetness and all its extreme consequences. Latin America is a film about light and we have chosen the privileged point of view of darkness to observe it “.
