What is a drive in cinema and what can people expect from the drive in cinema at Margam?
A drive-in cinema, or drive-thru cinema, is an outdoor film screening at a field, park, carpark or other location where cinema-goers are invited to drive their car to the site and watch the film from the comfort of their own vehicle.
They have become particularly popular over the last two years as cinema-goers do not need to interact with many other people and can keep a safe, social-distance from other cinema-goers and staff, if they’d like.
The drive-in cinema at Margam Country Park will be hosted on the large events space in front of the castle. It launches on Friday, January 28 2022 and is set to run until April – but further events may be announced later this year.
As is typical for drive-in cinema experiences, tickets are purchased per car (not per person), people are able to bring as many people as legally fit in their vehicle and are permitted to bring their dogs, if they won’t disrupt other visitors.
Drive-in cinema showings usually go ahead no matter the weather.
A Gower Dough Presents spokesman said: “We operate in all weather- other than high winds. If for any reason the event cannot go ahead, you will be contacted by the information given on booking.”
At this drive-in cinema, audio will provided by a wireless speaker, which guests will be given on entry to the cinema site at Margam Country Park.
Food and drink will be available to order online at the drive-in cinema at Margam Country Park, with pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, nachos and sweet treats and chocolate available to purchase from The Gower Dough Co. and Food Anarchy to be delivered directly to your car.
Tickets cost £25 per car, or £30 for VIP (a space in the front two rows of the cinema and two large portions of popcorn).
Alternatively, you can buy tickets for three film screenings for £70, or for four film screenings for £90.
