Actor Kang Ha Neul often has luck with low-budget but high-quality films when Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet has become a box office phenomenon after its release. In addition, this work recreates the life of Yoon Dong Ju in a very realistic cinematic narrative.
Yoon Dong Ju was a great Korean poet when he devoted his life to art but was imprisoned by the Japanese because he was associated with the anti-Japanese movement in Korea at that time. The film is said to have cost up to Rp. 35 billion to produce.
- Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum – IDR 31 Billion
Few people believe that, at Rp. 31 billion, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is the scariest low-budget Korean film of all time. The effects, sound, camera angles all give the audience goosebumps.
Set in the Gonjiam mental hospital in Gwangju, viewers will follow a group of young people to explore this terrifying area. The panic and anxious expressions of each character are shown directly on the screen, making the audience feel like they are entering a real adventure.

The last Korean film that surprised audiences when it only cost Rp. 2.6 billion to make a hit was Re Encounter. The budget is limited, the scenes, costumes are minimal, but that still doesn’t prevent this film from becoming one of the top masterpieces in the film industry.
This film tells the sad and tearful love story between Hye Hwa (Da In) and Han Soo (Yoo Yeon Seok). The two fell in love but lost touch when the woman became pregnant and the man left her to go to Canada. They meet again after five years in search of their son, who is believed to have been adopted.
